DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) - A Daytona Beach mother is recovering from injuries suffered in a crash while mourning the death of her 1-year-old daughter.
Police say 85-year-old Ray Beams was driving Monday when he struck a sports utility vehicle, crossed a median and drove onto the sidewalk where 24-year-old Christian Sims was pushing Iris Barnes in a stroller.
Daytona Beach police Chief Mike Chitwood says Sims and the toddler were dragged under the car before it crashed into a tree.
The toddler died a short time later at the hospital.
The Daytona Beach News-Journal (https://bit.ly/1OMKLS4 ) reports Sims has a broken leg bone and left foot.
Beams’ caregiver reported him missing just before the crash. Police say the elderly man has a valid driver’s license with no restrictions.
