SKANEATELES, N.Y. (AP) - Some residents and officials in a popular Finger Lakes community aren’t happy about a farmer’s plans to raise more than 2,000 pigs in a neighboring town.

Lamar Witmer already operates a pig farm in the Cayuga County town of Owasco. The Post-Standard of Syracuse reports (https://bit.ly/1Wi8S38 ) he’s starting a second pig farm that’s located close to the Skaneateles (skin-ee-AT’-luhs) town line in neighboring Onondaga County.

Skaneateles is home to Skaneateles Lake, a popular tourist spot known for its pristine waters and summer houses. It’s also home to a country club that will be a neighbor of the hog farm.

Town officials and residents say they’re concerned about the possible impact the farm will have on the environment, property values, tourism and local business.

Witmer has filed the necessary paperwork with the state to operate the second pig farm.
