KINGSTON, N.Y. (AP) - Opening statements are set in the murder trial of a Hudson Valley dentist charged with fatally poisoning his lover’s husband nearly five years ago.
Jury selection in the second-degree murder trial of 49-year-old Gilberto Nunez of Poughkeepsie is expected to wrap up Wednesday morning in Ulster County Court, with opening statements scheduled for the afternoon.
Nunez is accused of poisoning 44-year-old Thomas Kolman of Saugerties (SAW’-ger-teez) in November 2011 as the two men sat in Kolman’s car in the parking lot of a business outside Kingston. Kolman was found dead in his vehicle.
Prosecutors say Nunez killed Kolman, a father of four, because he was upset that his affair with Kolman’s wife was ending. Officials say Nunez used drugs used by dentists to poison Kolman.
Nunez was indicted last October.
