BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - Vermont Rep. Chris Pearson, a Progressive Party candidate for the state Senate from Chittenden County, has received a big and unexpected boost from Bernie Sanders.

The Democratic presidential candidate identified Pearson as one of eight state legislative candidates across the country selected for his endorsement. He urged his backers also to support the down-ticket candidates.

Sanders says the candidates he selected provide hope for a future in America more in keeping with the social-democratic senator’s principles.

Pearson, who once worked as an aide to Sanders, says he’s thrilled and honored to get the nod from his former boss.
