SANTA ANA, Calif. (AP) - Santa Ana police shot and critically wounded a woman suspected of stabbing a man during an attempted carjacking, trying to break into a business and then threatening officers with a knife.
Corporal Anthony Bertagna says officers responded Tuesday night to reports of a woman attacking a man with a knife while trying to steal his car.
Bertagna says the woman allegedly got into at least two other altercations, then tried to break into a business, before pedaling away on a bicycle.
When she was spotted by officers outside a park she approached them with the knife and refused orders to drop it, according to Bertagna. That’s when officers opened fire.
Authorities identified her Wednesday as 27-year-old Alma Ramirez. Bertagna says she’s expected to survive.
