ST. LOUIS (AP) - St. Louis prosecutors have dropped first-degree murder charges against a man accused in a 2013 shooting at the victim’s birthday party.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch (https://bit.ly/1WfWIYn ) reports that the trial of 24-year-old Darnell Hollings was scheduled to start Monday. A spokeswoman for the St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s office would not give a reason for the decision to drop charges.
Thirty-six-year-old Carnez Winslett was standing in a crowd outside his home on Sept. 7, 2013. Police say the shooter fired into the group from a car, injuring three others and killing Winslett.
Hollings still faces assault charges for a 2013 hammer attack on a hot dog vendor near a store in Ferguson.
