HONOLULU (AP) - The Latest on a guilty plea in a case involving meth trafficking and a bitten officer (all times local):

2:30 p.m.

A man is pleading guilty to being part of a Maui meth trafficking ring and assaulting two federal agents, one of whom he bit.

Edward Vierra pleaded guilty in federal court in Honolulu Wednesday to conspiracy and assault.

Vierra says he was using crystal meth and got involved with the ring to support his habit.

Court documents say Vierra was under arrest last year after receiving a package of methamphetamine mailed from California to Maui. The documents say that after he and a co-defendant were taken to Honolulu, Vierra asked to use the restroom. A scuffle followed when he refused to return to the cell.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Tony Roberts says Vierra bit a Drug Enforcement Administration task force officer’s finger and left a DEA special agent with bruised ribs.
