WILMINGTON, N.C. (AP) - Two Wilmington-area high school students have been killed in separate crashes.

North Carolina State Highway Patrol Trooper M.W. King tells news outlets that 17-year-old Tomas H. Green, a junior at Pender County’s Topsail High School, was hit and killed while riding a foot scooter on U.S. Route 17.

The vehicle fled and a passer-by discovered Green’s body around 6 a.m. Wednesday. It is unclear when Green was hit.

About four hours after the discovery of Green’s body, authorities say 18-year-old Lily Beatini died after running off the road, overcorrecting and crashing into a truck on North Carolina Highway 87.

Boiling Spring Lakes Police Chief Bradford Shirley says Beatini was a senior at Southport’s South Brunswick High School and was on her way to school.
