PHOENIX (AP) - A man affiliated with a militia group is scheduled to stand trial on Aug. 2 on allegations that he participated in a police sting in which he and two others thought they were stealing cocaine from smugglers.
Robert Deatherage has pleaded not guilty to a drug charge in the case.
Authorities say Deatherage and two other men stole drugs from an SUV that authorities had stocked with cocaine as part of the sting.
They say the sting was arranged after one of the other men involved portrayed himself to an undercover officer as a mercenary who had stolen drugs from smugglers.
The two other men charged have previously pleaded guilty to charges and are set to be sentenced next month.
