CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) - Federal officials are looking to move forward with plans to build Wyoming’s first-ever national cemetery for veterans in Cheyenne.

The Wyoming Tribune Eagle reports (https://bit.ly/22pZr1g ) that the proposed cemetery was discussed at a City Council meeting Monday.

The property would be constructed on a five-acre parcel of land west of the High Plains Arboretum and the F.E. Warren Air Force Base. It would serve as the final resting place for the hundreds of veterans living within a 75-mile radius of Cheyenne.

If the city agrees to sell the land to the federal government, Glenn Madderom with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs says the cemetery could be open within two and a half years.
