CINCINNATI (AP) - Cincinnati’s new streetcar is set to begin shuttling passengers around the city later this year.
The Cincinnati Enquirer reports (https://cin.ci/1WijGhv ) Paul Grether, METRO’s manager of rail services, announced at a meeting this week that the streetcar is scheduled to open on Sept. 9.
Officials say the date is dependent on training and certification, but that’s on track to be completed by then. Each of the city’s five cars needs to have made 100 laps and drive roughly 300 miles. Two of the cars have been certified.
A grand opening weekend is in the works with activities planned along the route.
The streetcar will run a 3.6-mile loop through downtown and will cost $148 million to build.
