CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (AP) - The citywide boil water order in Corpus Christi has been lifted.
The Corpus Christi Caller-Times (https://bit.ly/1OXSthE ) reports that the order was put into place May 13 and lifted Wednesday by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality. The boil order was issued after nitrogen-rich runoff from rain flowed into the water system, resulting in low chlorine disinfectant levels in the water supply.
An aggressive free chlorine was used to disinfect the water, but residents still needed to boil their drinking water.
City Manager Ron Olson resigned last week, saying he should be held accountable for the problems affecting supply to more than 300,000 people. Acting City Manager Margie Rose says the city has had three boil water orders in a 10-month period and needs recommendations to address the water issues.
