MIAMI (AP) - Authorities say an undercover Miami-Dade police officer opened fire while taking part in a drug buy.

News outlets report the incident took place around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday behind a check-cashing business in northwest Miami-Dade County.

Police say the undercover officer was making a drug buy when the unidentified suspect reached toward his waistband, and the officer pulled out his weapon and fired.

The suspect was not hit, and was taken into custody. The officer was not hurt.

No other details have been released.

The incident was the third police-involved shooting in South Florida on Wednesday. None are considered related.
