ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP) - A western New York man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for the shooting death of a father of four he was planning to rob.
Trevon McKinnon was sentenced Wednesday in Monroe County Court where he pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the 2014 death of Jamal Chester.
Prosecutors say the 20-year-old McKinnon and a co-defendant opened fire on Chester at a house in Rochester, striking him three times. Chester died at the scene.
Assistant District Attorney Julie Hahn says the families of both McKinnon and Chester expressed rarely seen compassion for each other during Wednesday’s sentencing hearing.
