ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP) - Testimony is underway in the murder trial of a man charged with firing into a crowd outside the Rochester Boys and Girls Club last summer, killing three people and wounding four others.
Prosecutors say 21-year-old Johnny Blackshell Jr. used an AK-47 to fired more than 20 rounds from inside a car while people were gathered outside the club after a basketball game on the night of Aug. 19.
Wednesday’s opening testimony included the club’s executive director describing the chaotic scene that erupted when the gunfire broke out.
Also charged with multiple counts of murder and assault are 20-year-old Jalen Everett and 18-year-old Michael Mathis, both of Rochester. They’ll be tried separately.
Blackshell’s defense attorney, Peter Pullano, told jurors during opening statements that there’s little evidence directly connecting his client to the shooting.
