FSU STUDENT REPS: NO HEADDRESSES AT SEMINOLES GAMES
The Student Government Association resolution, which passed April 20 by a 27-4 vote, is a nonbinding, formal opinion. It asks the university administration to consider adding the wearing of headdresses as a violation of the student code of conduct.
FLORIDA NOW READY TO TEST MOSQUITOES FOR ZIKA VIRUS
Commissioner Adam Putnam announced Tuesday that a department laboratory in Kissimmee is now equipped to test for the virus. The same laboratory is used to test for animal diseases. The department is working with mosquito control districts to distribute traps and train them on how to submit samples.
DEPUTIES: DRIVE-BY WOUNDS GIRL SLEEPING IN ORLANDO HOME
Orange County Sheriff’s spokeswoman Jane Watrel told local media that a group of people got out of a vehicle and started shooting into the home about 5:30 a.m. Tuesday. Watrel says some 30 shots were fired from three different guns. A man inside the house came outside and fired six rounds toward the vehicle.
EX-FLORIDA GOV. CHARLIE CRIST’S RUN FOR CONGRESS GETS A BIT EASIER
Crist’s Democratic primary opponent Eric Lynn announced Tuesday he will instead seek a seat in the state House instead of trying to represent the St. Petersburg area in Washington. Lynn leaves the race with nearly $625,000 in his congressional campaign account. He entered the race three months before Crist announced his run.
BODY WASHES ONTO FLORIDA BEACH DAY AFTER MAN GOES MISSING
Beach Safety Ocean Rescue Capt. Tammy Marris says a beachgoer found the body Tuesday morning in Ormond-by-the-Sea, which is 11 miles north of the spot where the Canadian man went missing on Monday afternoon.
