BEAUMONT, Texas (AP) - A Southeast Texas man must serve 10 years in prison for pretending to be a police officer.

Michael Gelagotis (gehl-uh-GOH’-tuhs) was sentenced Monday in Beaumont. The Beaumont man in January pleaded guilty to impersonating a public servant and to unlawful possession of body armor by a felon.

Investigators say Gelagotis in 2009 received 10 years of probation for impersonating a public servant in a similar case. He was arrested last September in the latest case.

An indictment says a now-former Beaumont police sergeant, Keith Breiner (BRY’-ner), helped Gelagotis gain access to a rifle. Breiner resigned last November after being indicted on a charge of tampering with a government document.

Both men in December 2013 were part of a ceremony, during halftime of a Houston Rockets game, honoring law enforcement officers.
