TUPELO, Miss. (AP) - A fourth man is running for a state Supreme Court seat in north Mississippi that’s being vacated by retiring Justice Ann Lamar.

Steve Crampton of Tupelo, who’s been a lawyer for Christian legal groups including Liberty Counsel and the American Family Association Center for Law & Policy, announced his candidacy Tuesday.

Three others are seeking the seat - Circuit Judge Robert “Bobby” Chamberlin of Hernando, Circuit Judge Jim Kitchens of Columbus and lawyer John Brady of Columbus.

Lamar, of Senatobia, has held the seat since 2007 but isn’t seeking re-election.

The general election in the nonpartisan race is Nov. 8, followed by a Nov. 29 runoff if no one wins a majority Nov. 8

The 33-county Northern District stretches from Columbus, Kosciusko and Greenwood to the Tennessee state line.
