DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - A former spokesman for Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad has been named senior adviser to the Republican Party of Iowa to help GOP candidates, including U.S. Sen. Chuck Grassley, win in November.

Party Chairman Jeff Kaufmann says he’s hired Tim Albrecht to help Republican campaigns succeed.

Albrecht started work on GOP campaigns in 1999 with the Steve Forbes presidential campaign. He’s also helped the campaigns of Mitt Romney and Jeb Bush.

Kaufmann and Albrecht say Grassley’s U.S. Senate race will be a top priority.

Grassley is taking on significant political fire for refusing to hold U.S. Supreme Court nomination hearings. He’s seeking a seventh term in what he’s acknowledged will be his toughest race. Former Lt. Gov. Patty Judge and Iowa Sen. Rob Hogg are among Democrats hoping to challenge Grassley.
