ATLANTA (AP) - The Georgia Board of Pardons and Paroles has re-elected its chairman and vice chairman.
Board spokesman Steve Hayes said in a statement Tuesday that Chairman Terry Barnard will begin serving his third consecutive one-year term on July 1, the beginning of the fiscal year.
Vice Chairman James Mills was also re-elected for a third consecutive term. Also at Tuesday’s board meeting, board member Albert Murray announced that he will retire effective July 1.
Barnard’s re-election makes him the board’s longest serving chairman since Milton “Buddy” Nix Jr. served four years from 2002-2006.
The parole board has seen a number of changes during Barnard’s tenure, including the transfer of parole supervision to the Department of Community Supervision, which was created last year.
