JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - A Jackson contractor will go to prison for not repairing a home after taking payment.

Mississippi Attorney General Jim Hood says in a statement Tuesday that Larry Samuels took advantage of a Jackson resident who simply wanted her home repaired after a severe storm.

The 59-year-old had contracted to repair a home that was damaged in a hail storm in 2013. Samuels took payment but never did the work.

Samuels had pleaded guilty in a Hinds County Circuit Court to a charge of embezzlement under contract.

Circuit Court Judge William Gowan sentenced Samuels to ten years in prison. Seven years of the sentence would be suspended after three years of post-release supervision. Samuels will also pay $2,300 to the homeowner.
