MILLCREEK, Utah (AP) - Authorities say the man accused of killing a K9 dog following a standoff and shootout with police has died.

Unified police said 36-year-old David Shane Anderson died Monday afternoon but it’s unclear if he died of a self-inflicted gunshot or one fired by officers during the confrontation on April 27.

Officials say a Unified Police SWAT team was called to serve an arrest warrant at a suburban Salt Lake City home when the gunfight and four-hour standoff ensued.

Anderson was found in a bedroom and hospitalized in critical condition with a gunshot wound to his head.

The incident also killed a K9 named Aldo but no officers were hurt.

Police said an autopsy for Anderson’s body is scheduled to determine the exact cause and manner death.
