GILLETTE, Wyo. (AP) - A man who authorities say shot at two law enforcement officers who had responded to a report of a possible suicidal person near Gillette could face attempted homicide charges.

The Gillette News Record reports (https://bit.ly/1SYzB3N ) that Campbell County Sheriff Scott Matheny says the county attorney’s office is working on filing two counts of attempted homicide against the suspect in Sunday’s shooting.

A sheriff’s deputy and a Wyoming Highway Patrol trooper had responded to a parking lot off Highway 59 to conduct a welfare check on the suspect when Matheny says the man opened fire, striking the deputy’s car.

The trooper had returned fire and ordered the man to put down his weapon.

The suspect eventually surrendered and was taken into custody.

No injuries were reported in the incident.
