ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) - The current superintendent of the Matanuska-Susitna Borough School District has been picked to head the Anchorage School District.

The Anchorage School Board announced Monday that Deena Paramo was picked to be superintendent after a nationwide search.

The board approved a three-year contract for Paramo.

Her contract begins July 1.

Anchorage School Board President Kameron Perez-Verdia calls Paramo an innovative and compassionate leader with a strong commitment to public education.
