MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - A Minneapolis restaurateur has won the prestigious James Beard award for best Midwestern chef.
Paul Berglund of The Bachelor Farmer took home the top honor in seven Midwestern states at a ceremony in Chicago Monday night that features the best of the culinary world.
The Bachelor Farmers opened in 2011 in a renovated brick-and-timber warehouse in Minneapolis, where Berglund grows his own herbs and vegetables on the rooftop.
Berglund was one of two Minnesotans who made the final cut in the Midwest category. Lenny Russo of Heartland Restaurant & Farm Direct Market in St. Paul was also nominated.
