PHOENIX (AP) - Phoenix police are investigating a shooting in which a woman was wounded while standing on the balcony of a third-floor apartment and smoking a cigarette.
Sgt. Jonathan Howard says officers determined that a man shot the woman from across a courtyard early Tuesday morning and fled before police arrived.
Howard says it’s “highly unlikely” the shooting was random and that detectives are trying to find any connections between the woman and the shooter.
The victim was taken to a hospital for treatment of injuries described as not being life-threatening. She was shot in the leg and the chest area.
The shooting occurred near Camelback Road and 39th Avenue.
