FORT WASHINGTON, Md. (AP) - Residents in a Prince George’s County neighborhood devastated by a landslide two years ago have settled their lawsuit against the county.
Attorney Joseph P. Suntum represented a small group of homeowners that sued the county. He tells The Washington Post (https://wapo.st/21rPJek ) that Prince George’s officials are using FEMA disaster funds to reimburse the owners of the five homes in the Piscataway Hills development that had to be demolished to allow for construction crews to stabilize the hillside.
Terms of the settlement were not disclosed. The homeowners also won additional compensation from the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission.
State officials visited the neighborhood Monday for a ceremony to reopen the community’s damaged main roadway, declaring it Piscataway Hills Day.
Heavy rains in May 2014 triggered the landslide, which affected 28 homes.
