PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - A Providence teenager has been sentenced to 12 years in prison under a plea agreement for a series of armed robberies.

Rhode Island Attorney General Peter Kilmartin announced the sentencing of 17-year-old Jonathan Morales on Tuesday. He was also sentenced to 8 years of probation.

Morales pleaded no contest April 28 to first-degree robbery and conspiracy.

Prosecutors say Morales and two co-defendants conspired to rob pedestrians in Providence and Cranston on August 24, 2015. Morales drove a vehicle while the other men jumped out and robbed people at gunpoint. Two victims were pistol-whipped and suffered injuries.

Morales will begin his sentence at the Rhode Island Training School. A hearing will be held before his 19th birthday to determine whether his sentence should be modified.
