PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Gov. Gina Raimondo says she wants the state Board of Elections to replace its executive director and she’s nominating two new board members to make it happen.
The Democratic governor tells the Providence Journal (https://bit.ly/23m2RRQ ) it’s time for a fresh start after longtime Executive Director Robert Kando was twice placed on unpaid suspension this year.
Raimondo doesn’t pick the board’s executive director but she is picking two people to fill open seats on the board.
Her nominees are former Bristol Town Administrator Diane Mederos and former East Providence Mayor Isadore “Izzy” Ramos. The picks require Senate confirmation.
The board suspended Kando for 15 days in January and then suspended him again for not signing up for required management classes. He returned to work Monday after missing last week’s presidential primary.
