PISCATAWAY, N.J. (AP) - The Big Ten Conference has announced its awards in men’s lacrosse and Rutgers is a big winner.

The league announced Tuesday that Scarlett Knights captain Scott Bieda was the offensive player of the year with 26 goals and 32 assists.

Adam Charalambides earned Freshman of the Year honors after scoring 35 goals in his first collegiate season, while Brian Brecht was named Big Ten Coach of the Year, turning Rutgers from a five-win team last season to 10 this year.

Bieda and fellow attackman Jules Heningburg were named to the All-Conference first team. Midfielder Zack Sikora was honorable mention.

Rutgers begins play at the Big Ten tournament on Thursday against Johns Hopkins.
