PRESCOTT, Ariz. (AP) - The only member of an elite firefighting unit to survive a June 2013 wildfire in Arizona has written a personal account of the tragedy.
The Daily Courier reports (https://bit.ly/1QROiOF ) that Brendan McDonough’s book, “My Lost Brothers,” goes beyond his experience surviving the Yarnell Hill Fire that killed 19 firefighters. It delves into his difficult childhood, teenage drug use, early days as a member of the Granite Mountain Hotshots, the loss of his closest friends and the therapy that helped him recover from post-traumatic stress disorder.
Stephan Talty, the author of “A Captain’s Duty,” co-wrote the book with McDonough.
The 276-page book was released May 3. McDonough will hold a reading, question-and-answer session and book signing in Prescott on May 14.
