CANTWELL, Alaska (AP) - Alaska State Troopers have released the name of a man killed last week in a traffic crash on the Parks Highway.

Troopers say 59-year-old Russell Benzel of Fairbanks died in the crash about 15 miles south of Cantwell.

He was identified by the state medical examiner’s office.

Troopers took a 911 call on the incident just after 4:30 a.m. Thursday.

Troopers say a southbound box van driven by Benzel crossed the centerline at Mile 194 and crashed into a UPS tractor trailer driven by 61-year-old Karl Reid of North Pole.

The van caught fire.

Emergency responders pronounced Benzel dead at the scene. Reid was not injured.
