ATHENS, Ga. (AP) - A University of Georgia student who survived a crash that killed four of her friends remains in critical condition, a Georgia sheriff said.
Oconee County Sheriff Scott Berry met with Agnes Kim’s family Monday night at Athens Regional Medical Center, where he got an update on her condition, the sheriff said on his department’s official Facebook page.
Four other students who were passengers in a car driven by Kim were killed in the crash. It happened April 27 on a highway in Oconee County, a few miles south of the university’s main campus in Athens.
In a separate Facebook post on Tuesday, Berry said the driver of the other car, Abby Short, is recovering from her injuries at home with her family and co-workers. She is an EMT at National EMS.
On the Athens campus Tuesday, the University of Georgia planned a candlelight service to remember the four students killed along with several other members of the university community who have died in the past year.
The service planned for 7 p.m. Tuesday is an annual event to honor university and employees who passed away.
It holds special significance this year, coming shortly after the deadly wreck.
The names of more than two dozen students, faculty and staff members who have died are to be read aloud on the steps of the chapel, following by the toll of the chapel bell and the lighting of a candle as each name is read.
