CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) - The Wyoming Department of Corrections says a state inmate has died at a prison in Virginia.
Agency spokesman Mark Horan says 45-year-old Bryan Patrick Collins died last Friday. Collins was one of three inmates convicted in the 1997 stabbing death of a guard at the Wyoming State Penitentiary during an escape attempt.
Collins was serving a life sentence on convictions in 1999 for felony murder and attempted escape. He was also given a consecutive nine to 10 year sentence for conspiracy to escape.
Collins was a native of Cheyenne.
The Corrections Department news release said foul play is not initially suspected in Collins’ death. It says the agency is waiting for investigation results.
Horan says he didn’t immediately know the name of the prison where Collins died.
