SURREY TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - Authorities say a woman killed her 54-year-old father with the help of her boyfriend in rural mid-Michigan.

The Morning Sun of Mount Pleasant and The Saginaw News report 31-year-old Angela Hempel was charged Tuesday with murder in the death of Leonard “Lenny” Hempel, whose body was found Sunday buried in a yard near the home he shared with his daughter and grandchildren.

Authorities say James Kuhns, who is in his 30s, also is charged with murder. And Angela Hempel faces a charge of lying to police.

Hempel and Kuhns are jailed on bond ahead of a May 12 hearing. Both have requested court-appointed attorneys.

The home is in Clare County’s Surrey Township. Last month, deputies took a report of that Leonard Hempel was missing and last seen alive April 9.
