ST. LOUIS (AP) - Two police officers are among five people injured after fire broke out at a St. Louis home.

KTVI-TV (https://bit.ly/1UyzECA ) reports that the officers arrived before firefighters Tuesday night and rescued one man from the back porch. Seven other people got out on their own, including five children.

Three adults from the home are hospitalized in critical condition. Both officers suffered burns and drove themselves to the hospital.

Fire Capt. Caron Mosby called the actions of the officers “courageous.”

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but police say a toddler playing with a lighter may have started the blaze.
