ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - A 40-year-old Australian man has been sentenced to more than six years in a U.S. prison for distributing and possessing child pornography while living in upstate New York.

The U.S. attorney’s office in Albany says Matthew Hynd of Mundah in Queensland, Australia, was sentenced Tuesday to 78 months in federal prison.

Prosecutors say Hynd was living and working in Albany when FBI Agents executed a search warrant on his home in 2010 after Hynd distributed child pornography images over the Internet. Officials say agents found hundreds of images of child pornography on his computers.

Hynd fled the U.S. and returned to Australia. He was indicted in 2012 and extradited from Australia last August. He pleaded guilty in December to one count of distribution of child pornography and two counts of possession of child pornography.
