ALAMEDA, Calif. (AP) - Alameda police have arrested a 19-year-old man after he crashed into a police patrol car late Tuesday, injuring an officer.

KNTV reports (https://bit.ly/21wH6PJ ) Wednesday that the officer was taken to Highland Hospital in Oakland with unknown injuries. He was released shortly after. His name was not released.

After the Toyota slammed into the driver’s side of the moving black-and-white, the patrol car then bumped into a pole. The driver then ran away from the scene.

The police car engine started to catch fire and the officer was pulled to safety by other witnesses.

The driver was later caught. The passenger stayed on the scene. She was not arrested. Neither was injured.

The man’s name and his arrest charges were not released. The case remains under investigation.
