SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) - A 23-year-old central New York man has pleaded guilty to attempted murder and assault in connection with a bar shooting that injured six people.

Chief Assistant District Attorney Joseph Coolican confirmed Tuesday to The Post-Standard of Syracuse (https://bit.ly/1Z9eSZv ) that Michael Morris pleaded guilty last month in the February 2015 shooting at a pub on Syracuse’s west side.

A woman who had briefly dated Morris said he knew her family was celebrating a birthday at the pub, and that was why he targeted the place.

The sudden plea to the shootings came two days after Morris was ruled competent to stand trial. Morris had spent months claiming he heard voices and had been controlled since age 12 by an imaginary nemesis “Doug.”

Sentencing is Monday in Onondaga County Court.
