LEWISTON, Idaho (AP) - A northern Idaho jail inmate has been charged with sex with a minor after authorities say jail staff recorded phone conversations and intercepted letters.

Forty-one-year-old Warren E. Sherrill was charged earlier this week with three counts of sexual battery of a minor between the ages of 16 and 17 following communications authorities say Sherrill had with a 16-year-old girl.

The Lewiston Tribune reports (https://bit.ly/23p49eK) that Sherrill was in the Nez Perce County Jail awaiting trial on one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm and being a persistent violator.

A May 19 hearing is set on the sexual battery charges.

A jury trial is scheduled July 18 on the weapon charge and persistent violator enhancement.

A judge set Sherrill’s bond at $100,000.
