YAPHANK, N.Y. (AP) - Suffolk County police are seeking a suspect who they say shot a man and his two dogs and then set his house on fire.

Police say a man entered the Yaphank home Tuesday evening, shot the 27-year-old man and his two dogs and then torched the home.

The victim was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. His name was not immediately released.

One dog died and the other was taken to an animal clinic, where he is recovering.

Firefighters from Yaphank and surrounding communities put out the blaze.

The suspect fled the scene. It’s unclear what led to the shooting.

Police say the medical examiner will remove the bullet from the dead dog as part of the investigation.
