WILKES-BARRE, Pa. (AP) - The mayor of a northeastern Pennsylvania town says he fired an officer for aiming a loaded weapon at his co-workers last year.

Wilkes-Barre Mayor Tony George says the incident happened in December, and that he fired the officer shortly after he took office in January.

The mayor didn’t identify the officer, but the (Wilkes-Barre) Times Leader identified him as Kyle Rogers, based on a complaint by the police union filed with the Pennsylvania Labor Relations Board.

Rogers hasn’t commented, but he’s since been hired - and defended - by Harveys Lake Police Chief Charles Musial who calls Rogers a “good kid.” The officer’s new boss says he vetted the officer and the incident and determined it wasn’t serious.

George says the officer told him he was “goofing off” but says that’s dangerous and doesn’t make it right.
