RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - The major party candidates for governor are speaking to North Carolina’s business lobby which wants more from state government as it stays out of the fray involving the state’s new LGBT law.

Democrat Roy Cooper and Republican Pat McCrory speak Wednesday to the North Carolina Chamber.

The state chamber has avoided taking a position on House Bill 2, which limits legal protections to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people. But local chambers in Raleigh and Durham say it’s bad for business and jobs.

The law includes provisions the business lobby might like including banning anyone who believes they’ve faced workplace discrimination from suing in state courts. Local governments can’t require businesses to pay more than the statewide $7.25 minimum hourly wage.
