PHILADELPHIA (AP) - A Philadelphia police officer wounded a man who police say opened fire after he refused to drop his gun.

The man is in stable condition at Presbyterian Hospital Wednesday.

Police say two officers heard gunshots on Grays Avenue late Tuesday night and they saw a man firing a gun in the air. Police say the officers told the man to drop the gun, but he fired one shot at the officers and missed.

The suspect was shot in the leg.
