FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (AP) - A new federal report finds that while hundreds of dermatology appointments and consults were canceled at the Fayetteville Veterans Administration Medical Center, they were not canceled at the direction of the local VA leadership.

The Fayetteville Observer reports (https://bit.ly/1SYj78S ) the investigation released Tuesday by the Veterans Affairs Office of Inspector General found that about 2,000 appointments and 3,300 consults were canceled during a two-year period ending in 2012.

The newspaper reported that the investigation came after an anonymous complaint alleged that the appointments were improperly canceled at the direction of local VA officials.

The report found that while there were some cancellations and long delays before some patients received appointments, local VA officials played no substantive role in the decisions.
