CHINO VALLEY, Ariz. (AP) - A northern Arizona segment of a state highway will close for about four hours starting Friday evening so workers can pour the concrete deck of a new bridge.

The Arizona Department of Transportation says State Route 89 will be closed starting at 9 p.m. Friday at the bridge site approximately 13 miles north of Chino Valley.

That stretch of the highway connects Interstate 40 with the Prescott area, and ADOT says travelers planning to use the highway between 9 p.m. Friday and 1 a.m. Saturday should either travel another time or consider alternative routes.

Alternative routes include U.S. 93 and Interstate 17.

The new bridge scheduled to open to traffic in mid-June will replace one built in 1954. The new bridge will have wider travel lanes and accommodate heavier loads.
