NEW YORK (AP) - A 16-year-old Brooklyn boy has been sentenced to serve a dozen years behind bars for a fatal New York City bus shooting two years ago.
A jury convicted Kahton Anderson in February of second-degree murder and attempted assault in the March 2014 shooting death of 39-year-old Angel Rojas. Anderson was sentenced on Tuesday.
Anderson, a member of the Stack Money Goons street gang, says he fired in self-defense after rival gang members shot at him earlier in the day.
Surveillance footage shows him firing a single shot on the bus, chasing his rivals off the bus, and emptying his clip on the street.
Anderson says he made a poor choice to get on the bus with a loaded gun but says he didn’t intend to kill anyone.
