DUBUQUE, Iowa (AP) - The Dubuque Police Department says a gunshot fired downtown just missed three officers.

The shooting occurred around 4 a.m. Sunday, as the officers finished another call in the area. A police news release says the officers hear gunshots in the distance and then heard a single shot close to them, although they didn’t see the gunman.

Lt. Scott Baxter says one of the officers thought the bullet went right by his head. Baxter says the officers took cover, and other officers responded to help search the area. A shooter was not found.

Baxter says there’s no indication the call the officers had just completed was connected to the shooting.
