NEWARK, N.J. (AP) - Federal prosecutors in New Jersey say a New York City man has pleaded guilty to his role in a scheme to distribute synthetic marijuana.
NJ.com reports (https://bit.ly/2fEtgMt ) prosecutors say 37-year-old Elmostafa Charif, of Queens, pleaded guilty on Wednesday to conspiracy to distribute, and possessing with intent to distribute two compounds that are chemical analogues of THC, the active chemical component in marijuana.
Authorities say the chemicals are often distributed under names including “Spice” and “K2.” They’re commonly sprayed on flavored leaves and then smoked.
Court records show Charif was arrested in April 2015 after a surveillance operation at a warehouse in Linden, New Jersey.
Authorities say Charif faces up to 20 years in prison and a $1 million fine for both counts.
