MINOT, N.D. (AP) - The Minot City Council has abandoned a plan to erect a bullet-proof glass wall between the public and workers in City Hall.

Council members expressed concerns about the message such a wall would send, Minot Daily News (https://bit.ly/2fFYPC1 ) reported.

Councilman and psychologist Stephan Podrygula said there’s enough of a barrier between people and government and that he doesn’t favor “putting our people behind a cage.”

“The last thing we need to do is put up a wall,” Podrygula said. “My expertise tells me this will actually inflame the situation.”

Podrygula believes the city should be train their employees and prepare them to deal with angry or upset customers.

City Hall staff said many of the problems stem from confusion rather than lack of training. They said the public often confuses the office entrance for the police department entrance, despite a notice on the door indicating the police department is around the corner.

Podrygula’s motion to send the matter back to committee failed. A motion to fund the glass screen also failed.

While no further action was taken, Podrygula said he plans to also bring up the issue with the new city manager who will arrive in December.
